Every person is different. We each come with a different combination of strengths and weaknesses, and we will all progress and plateau at different moments in our dancing journey.

On top of that, there are many different skills which are essential in dance: technique, musicality, connection, vocabulary (knowledge of figures & movements) and cultural awareness. Each of us will be stronger in some and need to work more on others.

We believe in developing well-rounded dancers, and so each level includes all five aspects, as well as a blend of more “universitário” and “roots” movements.

If you're new to Conexão, take a look at the checklists and videos below to see what level might suit you best. If you have questions, send Simon a WhatsApp message (+32493923258).

If you're already following classes with Conexão and wondering about changing levels, have a think about:

❓Do I feel comfortable executing the figures that we learnt this trimester?

❓Was I able to attend the majority of classes?

❓Am I able to apply the different fundamentals that we learnt in? (Fundamentals include things like: rhythm, comfortable posture, a good hug, balance, tempo forte, breaks in the music, the "stages" of leader-follower interaction, ...)

👉Feedback Week, at the end of the trimester, is the best opportunity to check in with a teacher and decide together what level is best for you.👈

As a guideline, we would expect most dancers to spend:
🌱 at least 1 trimester in Level 1
🌱 at least 2 trimesters in Level 2 and 3
This is a minimum, not an target!

There are lots of things which can influence how long you spend in each level.
For example, flexi vs. full registration, illness or other absences, whether you review the class content or practise between classes, how regularly you are able to attend social dance events, etc...

And there is no right or wrong rhythm: just the rhythm that works for you!

The aim is that every student is in a group where they will learn and progress at a rhythm that suits them.
