Forró Outside The Box

I've been feeling pretty grumpy for a couple of weeks: seeing the number of covid cases start ticking upwards here in Belgium and in other places in Europe, contemplating the impact this could have on the new season of forró classes starting in September, and realising that the return of social dancing, which I was so looking forward to, is probably not on the cards in the next month or two.

The last few months have been strange for me, and I guess for most of you out there as well. There have been highlights of course, but right now I'm feeling rather heavy - weighed down by the limitations, desire to be responsible and need to think twice about any gesture of proximity or physical contact.

From the very start, forró has been a source of creativity, fun, presence and connection in my life. And right now I feel like I need those things more than ever!

So I plan to try and find new ways to experience those amazing sensations. They probably won't look the same as before. There will be some trial and error and definitely some failures. They won't remove the need for responsibility and solidarity, but they might just balance it out a little bit.

As the wonderful quote from Rollo May says, "Creativity arises out of the tension between spontaneity and limitations." We have the limitations, let's add some spontaneity and see what happens!

I'd like to invite you to join me in this adventure. As all forrozeiros know, this is not just a dance; it's a community. And a big part of what makes forró so special is the connections between us all. I'll be sharing ideas for getting connected, present and creative during this time, as well as information about the new season of classes and how we're going to make them as fun (and safe) as possible. I'd like to know what you think, what works for you, what doesn't, what ideas do you have…

Let's not see this situation as an excuse to put life on pause. I still want connection, creativity and fun in my life, no matter what the circumstances!
